What is the Middle College High School program?
The Middle College High School (MCHS) program at Moreno Valley College (MVC) is a program that provides high school students the opportunity to complete their last two years of high school at MVC, enrolled in both high school and college classes. MCHS students have the opportunity to graduate high school with more than one year of college units. Each year we have some MCHS seniors graduate with both their high school diploma and an Associate Degree.
Who can apply to MCHS?
Only Moreno Valley USD and Val Verde USD sophomores can apply to the MCHS program at MVC. Sophomores and their parent/guardian interested in applying to the program must participate in the Middle College Student and Parent/Guardian Information meeting on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 6:00 PM, via Zoom. In the meeting will discuss the MCHS program and the application process.
Is transportation provided to and from MVC?
MCHS students will take all their high school and college classes at MVC. Transportation to and from MVC is the responsibility of the parent/guardian and the student. However, MVC has a partnership with the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA), and some of our students use the buses to get to school and home.
How much will it cost to participate in the program?
MCHS students do not pay for college courses or textbooks but must pay MVC Student Fees each term. MVC Fees include fees for Student Services, Health Services, and Transportation. The Student Services fee is the only fee that can be waived. MVC Student fees are subject to change.

- Fall semester = $55.50
- Spring semester = $55.50
- Winter term = $27.00
- Summer term = $32.50
How do students complete their high school graduation and A-G requirements?
- Through MVC college courses, MCHS students have the opportunity to complete their high school graduation and A-G requirements and earn units toward a college degree.
- The MCHS counselor works with students to develop an Academic Plan tailored towards their academic needs and college and career plans.
- Student’s parent/guardian will have the opportunity to review and approve college schedules.
How do students get support to apply to universities and financial aid?
As part of the College and Career Readiness (CCR) high school class that all MCHS seniors take, the CCR teacher and MCHS counselor assist students with their university and financial aid applications.
Will students graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate degree?
We cannot guarentee that a student will graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate degree. Every year we do have students who graduate with both their high school and an associate degree, but there are multiple factors that influence a student’s ability to earn an associate degree. The program’s first priority is meeting the high school graduation and A-G requirements.
Can I take part in my home high school activities?
Students can participate in their home high school extracurricular activities as long as it does not occur during the same time as the MCHS or college classes. Although we have had some students participate in sports, band, theater, or other activities at their home high school, we also have some students who had to give up their activities.
Will MCHS seniors participate in their home high school graduation?
MCHS seniors will participate in their home high school graduation ceremony. Those who earn an associate degree will also have the opportunity to participate in the MVC graduation.
Is there an MCHS Prom?
Yes, the MCHS program will host a Prom. MCHS students will also have the opportunity to participate in their home high school Prom.
How many students does the MCHS program accept?
Each year the MCHS program will accept 50 sophomores from Moreno Valley USD and 50 from Val Verde USD, for a total of 100.
Can high school juniors or seniors apply to the MCHS program at MVC?
The MCHS program at MVC only accepts sophomores.
Are summer college classes mandatory?
New MCHS students are required to enroll in a college summer class. Summer college classes after the junior year are not required.
Is the COVID Vaccine required at MVC?
RCCD-MVC no longer requires the COVID Vaccine.
Can MCHS students meet with MVC college counselors?
MCHS students will work with our MCHS counselor to develop their college class schedule. If a student or their family request to meet with a college counselor, they must first meet with our MCHS counselor.
Can my parents/guardians contact their student’s college instructors?
Parents/Guardians CANNOT CONTACT COLLEGE INSTRUCTORS, but they can contact MCHS teachers, the counselor, and staff.
