Principal's Message

Welcome to Vista del Lago High School, home of the Ravens!  I am very excited to work with you and your child(ren) during their time at Vista del Lago to ensure they have a positive, successful experience.  My name is Erik Swanson and I am the proud Principal of Vista del Lago.  I come here with over 16 years of teaching and administrative experience, I am humbled and honored to serve as Principal of Vista del Lago, and am eager to work with the amazing staff and community.

Vista del Lago’s graduation rate has steadily increased over the years and is currently at 92.6%.  With this steady increase in graduation rate, so has our progress in ensuring that all students have access to A-G classes so they graduate ready for college and careers.  We continue to focus on our attendance, as we know that students attending school is of the utmost importance.  In addition, Vista del Lago has received the prestigious California Gold Ribbon School Award, a Title I Achieving School Award, California Business Association Honor Roll Award, a PBIS Silver Medal Award, and we most recently received a Silver Medal Award from US News and World Reports.

Our school pride and culture is mirrored in our RAVEN Values and School Motto.  Each student and staff member is expected to know and reflect these characteristics.  Our RAVEN Values are RESPECT, ACHIEVE, VALUE, ENGAGE, NEVER GIVE UP and SUCCEED; and our school motto is:  “Take care of yourself, Take care of each other, and Take care of the school.”  Also, the mission of Vista del Lago High School is to create a culture of excellence.

Vista del Lago offers a growing and highly competitive athletic program and award winning dance team, as well as choir and band programs.  Outstanding theater performances are enjoyed by the community several times a year with highlights on the Fall Production and Spring Musical which are put on by our highly professional Theater and Performing Arts department.  We are also proud of our multiple Career-Technical Pathways, including Health Academy, Business, and Engineering, this year adding Manufacturing, and Marine JROTC.  Our JROTC program is the only Marine JROTC in Moreno Valley Unified.  The AVID program at Vista del Lago has now reached an all-time high enrollment, with 100% of our AVID seniors receiving one or more college acceptances last school year.  To prepare students for the rigors of college, we also offer a variety of AP classes for students.  There are over 60 clubs and extra-curricular activities open to students to ensure engagement and a connection to the school.

As we begin the 2018-2019 school year, please let me and the administrative team and staff know if we can be of any assistance.  Go Ravens!
